An Evening of Latin Music

Tenor Juan Carlos Rodriguez will present “An Evening of Latin Music” at the Howard Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 8:30 pm.
The program will include selections from composers Manuel Ponce, Ernesto Lecuona, Noel Estrada, Jose Alfredo Jimenez and others. Rodriguez will be accompanied by Carlos A. Flores, piano and Jose Cruz, clarinet, as well as a string quartet and mariachi ensemble.
A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Rodriguez has wowed audiences across Europe, North America, Israel, South America and the Caribbean.
His studies have also taken him across the globe, having studied under Maestro Franco Corelli in Florence, Italy, Marianna Cristos in New York, and Zoraida Lopez at the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory, where he received his bachelor of music degree. Currently, he is working on his master’s degree at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich.
La Traviata’s “Count Gastone,” “Fritz” from El Amico Fritz, and “MacHeath” from Three Penny Opera are just a few of the roles that Rodriguez has performed on stage.
Rodriguez received several awards at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the District of Puerto Rico in 2004, and he was the first-place winner at the Regional Competition of the Metropolitan Opera House in New Orleans.
